March 7, 2012 ,Brooklyn, NY- IceStone has been recognized in the first ‘Best for the World’ list for creating the most positive environmental impact. The list features the top scoring businesses according to the B Impact Assessment, which evaluates corporate impact and the value businesses create for society. The companies on the ‘Best for the World’ list earned a score 5x higher than 2,000 sustainable businesses that took the assessment. The B Impact Assessment, governed by the nonprofit B Lab, observes more than 200 metrics concerning workers, consumers, suppliers, community and the environment.“IceStone is a leader in the global movement to redefine success in business,” said Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab. “IceStone is among the best in the world at being the best for the world.”
IceStone’s recognition is a poignant one, as the company embarks on several new social responsibility initiatives under the new leadership of President & CEO Dal LaMagna. These include wage increases for hourly employees and a profit sharing plan for all IceStone employees. The company’s flat hierarchy has always fostered a culture of transparency and participation, and LaMagna anticipates employee engagement will increase with the restructuring of the company’s management. “As of January, all employees are represented as a managing member in IceStone’s governing partnership,” said LaMagna. “This is a significant change that’s going to result in the best decisions for all IceStone’s stakeholders. We’re ensuring that employee compensation is balanced, implementing a new health care program that will cover every worker, and renovating our facility- these are natural moves for IceStone, and ones that align with B Corp principles.”
